Palestinian Nonviolence and Peacebuilding: Approaches to Educating and Nurturing the Next Generation
Today, we're excited to share Palestinian Nonviolence and Peacebuilding: Approaches to Educating and Nurturing the Next Generation (Canva link) offers an overview of House of Hope Vision School’s approach to Peace and Justice Education, rooted in nonviolence, human dignity, and trauma-informed pedagogy. Written by House of Hope co-founder and Peace and Justice Education Director Milad Vosgueritchian, it presents nonviolence not only as a strategy for social change, but as a way of life grounded in the sanctity of all human life and the possibility of transformation, even under conditions of occupation and chronic stress.
Drawing on research in child development, the biology of toxic stress, and Waldorf-inspired educational practices, the curriculum integrates social-emotional learning, nonviolent communication, peace-building, and cultural identity into daily school life. Students learn skills in empathy, emotional regulation, conflict transformation, moral courage, and cooperative problem-solving.
The summary also situates nonviolence education within the lived realities of Palestinian children in the West Bank, emphasizing the role of schools as spaces for healing trauma, restoring trust, and nurturing resilient, ethically grounded young people. In addition to outlining classroom approaches, the document offers guidance and resources for teachers, school leaders, parents, and caregivers seeking to cultivate a culture of nonviolence within their own communities.
