Peace and Justice Education vs. Trauma-Informed Education
Complementary Approaches for Healing and Transformation

At House of Hope, we provide Palestinian students with a holistic education created by and for Palestinians that combines Peace and Justice Education with Trauma-Informed practices. The two are deeply interconnected, each enriching the other to create a holistic learning environment, especially in areas affected by oppression and war, like Palestine.
Peace and Justice Education fosters empathy, social justice, non-violence, and mutual understanding. Our House of Hope Peace and Justice Education equips students with the tools to resolve conflicts peacefully, understand different perspectives, and build a more just society. By emphasizing these values, we create a safe, inclusive, and empowering space where students can learn to challenge injustice and imagine a peaceful future.
On the other hand, Trauma-Informed Education recognizes that many students carry the weight of past or ongoing trauma. Our House of Hope Trauma-Informed Education creates a supportive, understanding, and compassionate classroom where students feel secure and can better engage with their learning. This approach acknowledges the emotional and psychological scars of Occupation and war, helping students heal by fostering resilience and self-regulation.
When combined, these approaches become a powerful framework for growth. Peace and Justice Education provides the why—the vision for a peaceful, just future—while Trauma-Informed education offers the how—the strategies to reach students where they are, emotionally and psychologically. Together, these approaches, developed with a deep understanding of our community’s experiences, provide both the vision for peace and the tools for healing, ensuring our Palestinian students can grow, learn, and build a just, peaceful community.
In essence, while trauma-informed education addresses the immediate needs of students impacted by conflict, Peace and Justice Education gives them a hopeful, transformative pathway forward.
